When Nation States and Civil Society met in Mexico, November 8-11, the theme of “Partnerships for Migration and Human Development: Shared Prosperity – Shared Responsibility” motivated all participants to explore more deeply human rights and protection issues of migrants. This movement forward occurred especially during the “Common Space” dialogue between nations and NGOs. Mary Jo Toll, SND Coesfeld, was able to attend these sessions as an NGO having worked with immigrants and representing her community which focuses on people–centered development and capacity building in the many forms of education in which they engage. The discourse on migration is changing to better mirror the reality that activists see in their daily work. Women, children and climate change were special emphases during the meetings. Official documents can be found at the Forum website:  http://www.gfmd.org/mexico-2010
