The United States announced on December 16, 2010 that it endorses the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. In an address to the White House Tribal Nations Conference, President Barack Obama announced that the United States supports the Declaration. Canada made a similar move earlier this month, and New Zealand announced its support in April this year. Australia endorsed the Declaration in 2009. When the Declaration was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2007, four countries voted against — Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States — and now all have signed.
