Girls Stand Up! is an orientation day for girls and young women (ages 16-25) attending the 55th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 55). The day will include interactive workshops on the history of CSW and the primary and review themes as they relate to girls’ rights. Participants will also receive training in advocacy skills and learn how to to advocate most effectively for girls’ rights at CSW 55. Special guest speakers, Ms. Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile, and Executive Director of UN Women & Ms. Leymah Roberta Gbowee, Executive Director, Women, Peace and Security Network – Africa, will address the importance of girls’ rights for the human rights community. 

The event will be held on February 20, 2011 at Pace University in Manhattan. As chair of the Working Group on Girls Advocacy Task Force, Mary Jo Toll, SND, will be coordinating the training of girls to communicate their hopes for girls to the members of UN Agencies and Permanent Missions.
