BOOK REVIEW: ECO-MIND BY FRANCES MOORE LAPPE

Lappe addresses seven “thought traps” or “guilt trips” often used in an effort to draw attention to environmental issues. She encourages each of us to rediscover our personal and societal agency enabling us to create the world we want. The author reflects on human traits that will help us to achieve this: cooperation, empathy, fairness, creativity, and the fact that we are “doers.” Clarifying common power structures and the evolution of the way in which they affect our thought and action, she builds our capacity to re-think the way in which evaluate our ability to effect change, both as individuals and as societies.
