The priority theme for the 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women will be Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls. The Commission will be held from March 4-15 of 2013. This is a two week experience to which all of our members are invited. It happens that this fall (2012) is also the third year for the 16 days campaign against gender violence begun by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. This year’s theme for the fall campaign is “Peace in the World: Let’s Challenge Militarism and End Violence Against Women.”; the campaign will engage with participants to challenge militarism and explore the deep socioeconomic structures that perpetuate gender-based violence.

Three areas of emphasis will be:
1) Violence Perpetrated by State Actors,
2) Domestic Violence and the Role of Small Arms, and
3) Sexual Violence during and after Conflict

There are many groups suggesting actions for these 16 days from November 25 – December 10. The web link below has information and resources in 34 languages, including all of those which our Sisters use. Please look to the right side of the home page.
