Every two years, the Third Committee of the General Assembly sponsors a resolution on girls rights. Traditionally the negotiating leader of this resolution is one of the countries in the South African Development Community, which includes Moçambique and Tanzania. This year, the General Assembly is asking for an “emphasis on child-headed households: causes, effects and prospects, …” with a view to assessing its impacts on the girl child. We are in the process of preparing information for UNICEF which may be writing the Secretary- General’s report. We have information from research; however we would prefer to hear from those of you who deal with this in the course of your ministry and in the life of the communities in which you live. We are aware that many children who are orphaned by HIV/AIDS become responsible for families and there are other instances as well. Please e-mail your contributions to email@example.com.
