RESOLUTION 1325: A POSITIVE STEP

 

unw_wps_buttonIn 2000, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 1325 “… calling for an increase in the participation of women at decision-making levels in conflict resolution and peace processes.” Thirteen years later only 36 countries have a national plan to implement 1325. If your country is one of the 36, make sure your national plan is being implemented. If not, call on your government to put a national plan in place.

MaryRobinsonUN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon recently appointed Mary Robinson, former Irish president and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to help end the long and terrible war in Congo which negatively affects women and children the most, as do all wars. Officially involving an experienced woman in peace negotiations is a positive step.  http://bit.ly/19p5Oua
