Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Dorothy Stang, posthumous recipient of the UN Human Rights Prize in 2008, inspired film maker Vincent Biscione when he read Martyr of the Amazon about Dorothy’s efforts to preserve the rainforest and support sustainable farming and her murder by those involved in illegal logging. Vincent and his wife Cristina decided to try to film Dorothy’s story, titling it The Hope of the Amazon. “Someone said: ‘Sister Dorothy is a seed. We are not burying her; we are planting her,’” Vincent recalled. “I want to be a leaf of her branch.”
