CONFERENCE ON FINANCING FOR DEVELOPMENT: BECOME PART OF A LARGER NETWORK

Joan Burke, SNDdeNBy Joan F. Burke, SNDdeN, our former NGO representative in New York, current lecturer at Center for Leadership and Management at Tangaza University College in Nairobi Kenya, and SNDatUN delegate to the Third International Conference on Financing for Development

“NGO Representatives in New York have followed closely the development of the Financing for Development (FfD) Conference text through its different drafts at the UN. Normally the text will already be in its almost final form before the Heads of State gather for the conference so there will be little opportunity for NGOs to actually influence its content at that point. Even so, Notre Dame having a presence at the conference will demonstrate to governments the importance of the topic and of the content of the outcome document for us who see the human face of poverty and the scourge of growing inequality in the daily lives of our people. Additionally, we hope to be able to connect at the conference with other NGOs on our continent of Africa who have a similar commitment to following the FfD process so that we can become part of a larger network.”
